Transformations is a pair of one-of-a-kind handmade codex notebooks created by Calle Soledad Presa.
The two books explore transformation through color, paper, sequence, and use. Each notebook is constructed by hand and features vibrant pink and neon-colored papers, creating a pair that can be experienced together or individually.
Inspired by the structure of the codex, these small artist-made books open and expand differently from a conventional bound notebook. Their pages become a space for writing, drawing, poetry, sketches, observations, and ideas.
These are functional books, but they are also small works of book art.

TWO BOOKS, TWO POSSIBILITIES
Use the pair together or separately.
Keep one as a writing journal and one for drawing. Use one for poetry and one for notes. Give one to a friend and keep one for yourself.
The two notebooks can also become a small collection of artist-made books, displayed together as a study in color, form, and repetition.
THE CODEX
The codex is a book structure with a long history in the Americas. Calle Soledad Presa approaches the codex as a contemporary artist-book form, exploring how pages can become spaces for memory, writing, drawing, and material experimentation.
Transformations does not attempt to reproduce a historical codex. Instead, it uses the codex as a point of departure for contemporary handmade bookmaking.
THE MATERIALS
The vibrant papers are part of the visual language of the work. Color becomes a material in itself, changing as the books are opened, folded, handled, and placed beside one another.
Because each notebook is handmade, variations in color, texture, folds, edges, and construction are natural characteristics of the work.
No two sets will be exactly alike.

ABOUT CALLE SOLEDAD PRESA
Calle Soledad Presa is an experimental artist's press creating handmade books, papers, and artist materials inspired by book arts, natural pigments, and the material histories of the Earth.
Founded by artist Diana Lizette Rodriguez, the press moves between structure and improvisation, treating the codex as both a tool and a record.
Each book is made slowly and by hand, allowing the physical qualities of paper, color, binding, and touch to remain visible.
