Amate or in the Nahuatl language āmatl is a paper made in Mexico, an indigenous sacred paper created from the inner bark of the wild fig tree. It is an important paper made by the Otomi people in San Pablito, Puebla. Amate paper is both decorative and a spiritual paper holding wisdom and beauty. The Otomi people use ancestral technique and methods to make this paper as it is an essential part of their rituals.
