SOLEDAD is a one-of-a-kind handmade codex notebook created by Calle Soledad Presa.
The cover brings together three distinct papers: Amate, Japanese, and Nepalese paper. Their differences in texture, fiber, color, and surface remain visible, making the material itself an important part of the book.
Inside, soft pink paper creates a warm surface for writing, drawing, sketching, poetry, notes, and other creative work.
The book takes inspiration from the accordion structure of the codex, allowing it to be opened and experienced as more than a conventional notebook. It can be used, unfolded, displayed, or kept as part of an artist-book collection.
SOLEDAD is both a functional book and a small handmade artwork.
THE IDEA BEHIND SOLEDAD
The name SOLEDAD speaks to ideas of solitude, time, memory, and the intimate space created between a person and a book.
A handmade book changes through use. The pages collect marks, thoughts, images, and traces of the person who carries it. Over time, the notebook becomes an archive of its own.

THE MATERIALS
Amate paper is a handmade bark paper with a long history in Mexico and remains an important material within contemporary Mexican paper practices.
Japanese and Nepalese papers bring additional textures and fibers into the cover, creating a layered surface that changes depending on the light and how the book is held.
Because these are handmade papers, variations in fiber, color, texture, thickness, and edges are natural characteristics of the materials.
No two SOLEDAD notebooks will be exactly alike.
