OBSIDIAN THOUGHTS

A small handmade notebook made for writing in the dark.

Obsidian Thoughts is a one-of-a-kind artist notebook with a cover made from Mexican amate and Nepalese handmade paper and 10 black interior pages. Its dark pages are meant to change the way you write, draw, and leave a mark.

Instead of writing disappearing into white paper, graphite, ink, pastel, and metallic marks become visible against the darkness—like traces, fragments, or small constellations appearing on the page.

Made by hand in a compact 4 × 6 inch format, this notebook is easy to carry into the studio, keep beside your bed, bring on a trip, or tuck into a bag for ideas that arrive unexpectedly.

Use it for:

• poetry and fragments
• dreams and observations
• sketches and visual notes
• creative writing
• lists and fleeting ideas
• experimental mark-making
• notes from your studio practice

The cover brings together two distinct handmade paper traditions: Mexican amate and Nepalese paper. Each notebook carries the natural texture, fibers, and irregularities of its materials, making every piece slightly different.

WHAT TO USE ON THE BLACK PAPER

For the most visible marks, try white, metallic, pastel, gel, chalk, or brightly colored pens and pencils. Experiment with different materials—the dark paper is part of the drawing experience.

Because this is a handmade object, variations in paper texture, fibers, color, and construction are natural and should be expected. No two notebooks are exactly alike.

A small book for thoughts that belong in the dark.
